Some faults are not a normal repair call. If your dryer is showing any of the following, deal with the safety issue before booking anything:
- Burning smell. Stop using this appliance now and unplug it if you can reach the cord safely. A burning smell can mean overheating wiring. Do not run it again until a technician has inspected it.
- Sparks or arcing. Stop using this appliance immediately. If it is safe to do so, switch off power at the breaker. Do not touch the appliance. If there is fire or you see continuing arcing, leave the area and call 911.
- Smoke. Stop using this appliance immediately and switch off power at the breaker if it is safe to do so. If there is fire or smoke is continuing, leave the building and call 911.
- Smell of gas. Leave the building now. Do not switch anything on or off, and do not use a phone indoors. Once outside, call 911 and the Philadelphia Gas Works emergency line on 215-235-1212. Do not go back inside until you are told it is safe.
